Aesthetic Services Q & A

What is laser hair removal?

Lasers can be used for many different aesthetic treatments including hair removal. The lasers are used to treat sensitive areas such as the face, arms, legs, underarms, and bikini line among others. Because laser hair removal is a medical procedure it should only be performed by a qualified, trained technician who can perform it safely and properly.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is an injectable treatment used for smoothing lines and wrinkles on the face. A very fine needle is injected into the muscles that are resting just beneath the skin. The facial muscles will become relaxed once the nerve impulses are blocked. This causes the activity in the muscles which cause pronounced lines in the face to reduce. When these muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance. BOTOX is also a useful treatment for medical conditions such as managing chronic migraines, preventing headaches, as a treatment option for excessive sweating and it may help stop muscles from inadvertently contracting or twitching.

Are all fillers the same?

Most dermal fillers are gel based and are injected under the skin to produce more volume. Each of them has different ingredients and will produce different results. The fillers also come in different formulations which make them more effective for different areas of the face. Both botox and dermal fillers work to smooth wrinkles around the face or adding volume to the lips, cheeks, or under-eye hollows. An initial consultation with Dr. Wheeler will help determine which dermal fillers are right for you.

How is acne treated?

Acne can have varying degrees of severity but most all of them can be treated effectively. Treatment options depend on the degree and type of acne, also where it’s located. The goal of treating acne will be to heal existing lesions, stop new lesions from forming, and prevent acne scars. Mild cases of acne often respond to a topical retinoid. If acne is more severe, it may be treated with Accutane, chemical peels, or laser treatments. Often, a combination of treatments will be used so that the best possible results are achieved.
